Remember, remember

2006-09-11

Remember, remember the 'Leventh of September,
Airplanes and terror and plot,
I see no reason why the two towers treason
should ever be forgot.

I have, of course, taken liberties. Those of you who haven't seen V for Vendetta and aren't British may not know the Guy Fawkes' Day rhyme:

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I see no reason why the gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

401 years ago (less 24 days), Guy Fawkes unsuccessfully attempted to destroy Parliament. Five years ago, Osama Bin Laden successfully destroyed two very large office office building and a huge chunk of the Pentagon. Fortunately, neither plot actually succeeded in terms of achieving ultimate goals.

I rarely grow political on this site, but most who know me know my contempt for the presidential administration our country endures. However, whatever my feelings for politics or its warmongering, a horrible horrible tragedy occurred on September 11, 2001. I do not believe it was engineered by our government, and people who do I feel are at best unstable. The events of that day, almost exactly 5 years ago to the minute of this writing, showed what a few evil men, determined to destroy that which they cannot understand and to oppress those who disagree with them, can do in this world. Are things better now? Well, it's harder to brush my teeth during a layover when flying, but I'm not sure we've done a lot to fight this ideology. We can't fight ideology with bombs and bullets. We will make as many enemies as we remove. There are immediate threats (such as Al Qaeda) that should certainly be dealt with, but a war on terror will never be won. It can only be lost. There are no concrete objectives that are obtainable.

However, we cannot forget what happened, or why. We cannot give into fear. We cannot condone mass murder on a horrifying scale. Not because we are proud Americans, not because we are cabable of kicking the ass of any country we choose, but because we are human, because we are civil, because we are intelligent. We will not allow acts of terror to hold sway because we know, at our core, that any ideology that claims such acts as righteous crusades is false and corrupt.

I don't know where I'm really going, so I'll shut up. Rest assured that I love my country, and I love my fellow man.

Sometimes you gotta give in

Yeah, so, mia, right?

No worries, I've redesigned the code from the ground up. Comikazee is nice, but it's too limited for a lot of possibilities. However, Galactibase is still brand new, I'm sure I'll find lots of problems, particularly in the management backend.

I plan on making up all the comics I missed. However, I definitely have problems. Just posting htis news item has been a bit of a bother. So.... please bear with me.

The Fantastic Plastic Men are copyright 2005 by Eric J. Ehlers. e-mail him for any reprint permissions. The figures used in the making of this comic were not harmed in anyway, except perhaps in the indignity they suffered via appearing in a satire like this (which makes it fair use!). The figures and props probably also have some copyrights through Hasbro, Toy Biz, Mattel, DC Comics, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Wingnut Films. In anycase, they're all copyrights of their respective owners, and I'm not claiming in anyway that I have designed any of these figures -- I just make fun of them. Though designing action figures would be a really cool job, don't you think? Too bad the companies own all the rights, and not the guy who did the actual work.

I used Galactibase 0.7 to make this site. Which was written entirely by me, and will be available for others to use eventually. I'm hosted by Geerbox who are probably the best hosts on the planet. They've bent over backwards for me, all for a very nice price.
